1.  JOHN1 LANGAN was born Abt. 1866 in Dublin,Ireland.  He married EMILY UNKNOWN.  She was born Abt. 1878.

 

Notes for JOHN LANGAN:

John Had a long prison record for petty crime & forged currency.I have these records.

Family lore say's when he was sent to prison for a long term,his wife abandoned the children to the Cottage Home,Littleboro,Rochdale.

I have the records of the children in the said home.

Living with his wife Emily and children,Rosa,Kate & John

Occupation given as Clog Dancer,which fits with family lore.

Notes for ROSA LANGAN:

Baptised 18th April 1907,St Mary's Littleboro.

Rosa or Rose as she was known was sent to the Cottage home,Littleboro,Rochdale 1906-7

 

Rose was put into service age 12 to a Mrs Booth,98a,Milnrow rd,Shaw,confectioner.

After 4 yrs she was returned to the Cottage home.1912.

Rose was then sent to Blackpool in service to a Miss Hughes,25,Clifton St.

In the minutes from the Guardians meeting 10th October 1912 at the Cottage Home,it states that Rose has a aunt in Blackpool who would keep an eye on her.

 

                 iii.    JOHN LANGAN, b. Abt. 1900; d. September 30, 1918, France & Flanders.

 

Notes for JOHN LANGAN:

Baptised 18th April 1907,St Mary's Littleboro,Rochdale.

On his baptism certificate Johns birth date is given as July 1901.

This is incorrect as the 1901 census shows him as aged 1yr and a half.

 

John served in the Army WW1 and was killed in action September 30th 1918

Theatre of war,France & Flanders.

2.  KATHLEEN2 LANGAN (JOHN1) was born Abt. 1899, and died November 1977 in Manchester.  She met ALBERT HUDSON, son of WILLIAM HUDSON and ELIZA GUNTON.  He was born August 11, 1880 in Bacup,Lancashire, and died February 11, 1940 in Manchester.

 

Notes for KATHLEEN LANGAN:

Baptised 14 October 1917,St Mary's Littleboro,Rochdale.

 

Kathleen entered the Cottage Home,Littleboro,abt 1906-7

Kate as she was known was put into service age 14,

with a Mrs Draper of 261.Ashfield Rd,Rochdale.

 

Address at the time of her son Alberts birth,14,Rumford,St,Chorlton on Medlock,Manchester

 

Notes for ALBERT HUDSON:

Residence at time of death,8,Westwood St,Moss Side,Manchester

Occupation Engineer.

 

Buried Manchester Southern Cemetary,16th February,1940

 

Albert joined the Royal Navy 16th Februrary 1900,and signed on for 12 years.

Although family lore say's he served in the Navy WW1,

his Navy record shows that he was invalided out on 8th June 1900.

 

The record also shows he served on H.M.S Pembroke.

I have a photograph of Albert wearing a hat with H.M.S.Northumberland badge.

As Northunberland was a tender for Pembroke,this may explain the hat.

 

Many records have been searched but no other service records found for him.

Albert served in 27 Group,Army WW1 and spent 5 years in the Middle East & Germany.
